Survival Games

Share

After last week’s Horror experience, Maslin and I thought we would focus on Survival games and the most popular one’s being played. Most often, survival games begin with players having minimal equipment, and it’s their job to find resources and shelter in order to survive. Some of the most popular survival games on Xbox and PC are Minecraft, Day Z, Rust, and The Forest. I actually was late to the survival game phase, and like I mentioned in last week’s blog I was often playing other games like Left 4 Dead 2 or Call of Duty.

This week I will be streaming one of if not the most successful survival games of all time, Minecraft. Released in November of 2011, Minecraft quickly became a fan favorite allowing players to create a virtual world based on their own imagination. It was simple and easy to play, not requiring some of the skills needed in order to play other games. The game allows you to have unlimited freedom and it’s quite rare that you will find yourself with nothing to do. Recent success has occurred from influencers like PewDiePie, streaming themselves playing the game and building a world. Minecraft content had over 200 billion views in 2020, which only led to an increase in active players on the game.

During my stream I will introduce the audience to a world that my friends and I created over the summer. It’s often joked about that players will annually visit minecraft and grind for about two weeks a year, and this happened to be when we created this world. We’ll explore our different cities we’ve designed and hopefully mine a few diamonds along the way. Be sure to check out my stream this week at twitch.tv/Jonathan_Thomas3.

I, Maslin, will be tackling the challenge of surviving in the jungle this week. This hardocre survival game, Green Hell, you are separated from your girlfriend who may or may not have been taken by cannibalistic tribesmen who inhabit the area you are located in. This game truly shows you that everything in the jungle wants to kill you. Equipped with a notepad, it is important to note how each plant and animal affects you. How do you find out what they do to you? Well… trial by fire. Ensuring that you are stocked up on health and sleep, eat that mysterious mushroom you found on a log and just hope that it doesn’t kill you. Other than food, animals that are alive will also try to kill you. So watch your step, one bite from a rattlesnake will surely make you wish you had researched more plants. Playing around with plant leaves in a the crafting menu will prove to be very helpful when you get ambushed by a jaguar, tribeman (or tribesmen), alligator or piranha. If you do not know how to make a bandage to stop the bleeding then… well it was nice knowing you because you won’t be lasting long with an open wound in one of the most unsterile places in the world. Green Hell is one of those games where if you don’t die or at least almost die, you’re not playing it right.

Watch me and my friends attempt to successfully survive in the unforgiving jungle on Saturday at 10 a.m., hope to see you there!
