Chicks Picks: Thanksgiving NFL Games, Halftime Performances, and Black Friday Game.

Share

After an exhilarating Monday Night Football game, Thursday, November 23rd, 2023, marks Thanksgiving Day. It is a time to show appreciation and gratitude while stuffing our faces with plenty of food alongside our families. November 23rd also marks the time for some great Thanksgiving NFL games.

Here are some of those games from 11:30 a.m. CT all the way to 7:20 p.m. CT.

Thanksgiving NFL Game One: Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions

KSL Sports

Prediction: Detroit Lions

Reality: Green Bay Packers

I have been kind of a fan of the Detroit Lions, considering their ties to the Alabama Crimson Tide with running back Jahmyr Gibbs, cornerback Brian Branch, wide receiver Jameson Williams, cornerback Anthony Averett, and defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs. Obviously, this blog was posted after the game’s commencement, and my prediction was very wrong. The Green Bay Packers beat the Detroit Lions 29 to 22.

While we’re here, I also want to hit on the halftime performances. Jack Harlow performed a mix-up of songs, including “First Class” and his Tiktok hit “Lovin On Me.” The dance team for the Detroit Lions assisted him, and they had an iceberg or glacier theme set up. He ended his performance by encouraging the Detroit fans. Harlow said, “It aint over. It’s not over.” Sadly, it, in fact, was over, even though the Lions got better. This encouragement comes after a bone-crushing first half where it seemed like Detroit was fumbling the ball on every possession. One fumble even resulted in a touchdown for the Green Bay Packers

Thanksgiving NFL Game Two: Washington Commanders vs. Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Morning News

Prediction: Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders face off from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for a Thanksgiving showdown that actually turned out to be a beat down.

The Dallas Cowboys went into halftime with a less-than-comfortable lead of three,  13-10. In the fourth quarter, they established a quite dominant lead of 31 to 10 after wide receiver CeeDee Lamb scored the touchdown and 2-point conversion through quarterback Dak Prescott throws. On the Cowboys’ very next possession, Prescott threw a dime to wide receiver KaVontae Turpin, resulting in one of the fastest touchdowns of the game with six minutes to go in the quarter. Wait. We’re not done. DaRon Bland set an NFL record during this game with his fifth six-pick in the season. Not only was this an awesome record to break, but it extended the score 45-10, therefore setting the lead to five touchdowns! Sheesh, what a nasty lead. The Dallas Cowboys scored 25 points in less than nine minutes. Needless to say, the Dallas Cowboys offense treated the Washington Commanders’ defense like they were a part of a little league team. This revelation is not very surprising, considering they traded Chase Young, who was a core member of that Commanders defense.

The halftime performance for this game was none other than Miss Dolly Parton. She sang along to her songs, “Jolene”, “9 to 5,” and many more all while strutting it in a Dallas Cowgirl uniform. It is always a good time when her songs are being played, especially when she accompanies them.

Thanksgiving NFL Game Three: San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

FOX Sports

Prediction: San Francisco 49ers

Reality: The game still has not ended, hahaha

The San Francisco 49ers enter this came at 7-3 making a strong presence throughout the National Football League. The Seattle Seahawks are not far behind the 49ers with their record sitting at 6-4, but this game marks a pretty treacherous journey they have to endure seeing as they play the Niners again as well as the top ranked National Football League team, the Philadelphia Eagles, who are 9-1.

Let us just say the Niners offense is on fire during this game, and the Niners defense was making a stand holding the Seahawks offense at zero yards through the first quarter. Although the Niners had a massive difference in performance, it was odd to see that the Seahawks were only down by four (7-3) at the end of the first quarter.

This lack of scoring would end in the second quarter for the San Francisco 49ers as they scored two touchdowns and one field goal in the second quarter alone. The Niners defense also did not allow the Seahawks’ offense nor quarter back Geno Smith to do anything throughout the first half.

The halftime performance was not broadcast as widely as the other ones featuring Jack Harlow and Dolly Parton were. The performer for this game was DJ and producer Steve Aoki.

Beginning in the second half, the Seahawks came out guns blazing. They were not scared on that Niners defense at all, but thanks to Nick Bosa, the Seahawks were not able to make anything off it. Although there was no benefit from the opening drive, but the Seahawks defense held the Niners offense causing what seemed to be a momentum shift that the Seahawks offense capitalized off of with a touchdown bringing the game score to 24-10. The Seahawks fans also became a problem for the Niners on their next series.

Even with all this Thanksgiving football, the National Football League is also having its first ever Black Friday football game with the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets squaring off at 2 p.m. CST.
