The 67th Annual Grammy Awards were held on February 2, 2025. It received 15.4 million views. The night was filled with electric performances and historic first-time wins including Sabrina Carpenter and Chapel Roan. The Grammy’s are known for celebrating the world’s biggest artists in the music industry. Every year the ceremony never fails to deliver shocking wins and snubs leaving fans talking long after the awards are over. This year, was no different, it also became a focal point of discussion concerning the outcomes for two of the industry’s most influential artists: Beyoncé and Billie Eilish.

Beyoncé’s Historic win
After years of anticipation and multiple nominations, Beyoncé clinched her first Album of the Year award for “Cowboy Carter.” She was previously nominated four times, once for her iconic album “Lemonade” in 2017. She is the most nominated artist in Grammy history, with 99 nominations and 35 wins, but this one was extra special. It marked the first time in 26 years that a Black woman received this award. Not only did Beyoncé win Album of the Year, but she also took home the title for “Best Country Album” at this year’s Grammy Awards. Many people were shocked, even Beyoncé herself, as this genre of music is not typically in her wheelhouse. “Cowboy Carter” highlights the challenges Beyoncé has faced as an artist and proves to people that she can write and perform in more than one genre. All the congratulations to Beyoncé on this album and on the possibility of more country music from her in the future.

Billie’s Snubbed

Famous artist Billie Eilish released her new album “Hit Me Hard And Soft” in May this past year which gained her and her brother, Finneas, seven Grammy nominations, yet left them with empty hands at the end of the award ceremony. There has been lots of speculation that Billie was robbed at this year’s Grammy Awards. Her song “Birds of a Feather” was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, with her album as a whole nominated for Album of the Year. It is shocking that she did not win one award, yet she was seen celebrating with the artists who did win and remained composed and supportive of them.

Billie and her brother Finneas performed their hit song, “Birds of a Feather” live at the Grammy’s. She is not looking for people to start fighting over who should have won the awards, yet she encourages everyone to be supportive and kind. The music industry is all about sharing passion and talent with one another and the world around them. Billie Eilish is still set to continue on her world tour for her “Hit Me Hard And Soft” album. Fingers crossed to see this pop star with more awards added to her name and not just nominations.

No Awards for Taylor Swift

It was not only Billie Eilish who left the Grammy Awards with nothing but nominations. Famous artist Taylor Swift also did not bring home any awards after being nominated in 6 different categories. Swift was a presenter for Beyonce’s “Best Country Album” award, yet she left the award show empty handed. There has been a lot of buzz around this year’s awards and how they were selected. By watching the Grammys, it was mentioned numerous times that there is a panel of 13,000 individuals who sit on the board to vote for the winners of each category. Maybe this was a repetitive tactic to get ahead of the drama to follow?

Even though Taylor left with no physical Grammy award, she successfully had people talking about her red carpet look. Swift wore a Vivienne Westwood custom mini dress with a chain around her thigh with the letter “T” charm hanging from it. Was this letter symbolic of her name or her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce? Whichever meaning was intended, she accomplished the goal of having many people talk about her special look on a big night for her. Hot take, but the Grammy Awards should have a category for “Best World Tour.” Taylor would undoubtedly sweep this competition as her infamous Era’s Tour calculated a total of 632 days! That is an accomplishment in itself. Swift announced that she is taking a break from the tour and will enjoy a more ‘quiet’ lifestyle as she supports her boyfriend in preparation for the Super Bowl on February 9, 2025. Looking forward to new music to be produced by her and Billie Eilish this upcoming year and continue to follow their career journey.

The 2025 Grammy Awards will be remembered not just for the awards but for the conversations they sparked about music genres, recognition, and the constant change in the music industry. Awards never determine an artist’s impact on the world, but the Grammys are a reflection of what people are listening to. One thing is for certain, people will be talking about this ceremony for years to come.
