The Oscars 2025
The 97th Academy Awards, held on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, celebrated the cinematic achievements of 2024. Comedian Conan O’Brien hosted the ceremony, which was broadcast on ABC and, for the first time, streamed on Hulu.

Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing
To start, you cannot ignore the fact that the movie “Anora” had a very successful night.
The first award that this film received was Best Picture. The Academy Award for Best Picture goes to the producers of the film and is the only category in which every member of the Academy is eligible to submit a nomination and vote on the final ballot. The other nominees of this category included The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Perez, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance, and Wicked.
Mickey Madison was the next winner. She took home the Actress in the Leading Role Award for her role in Anora. The other nominees included, Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez), Demi Moore (The Substance), Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here.)
Sean Baker was voted and awarded Best Directing. Sean Baker’s achievement was particularly notable, as he matched Walt Disney’s record by winning four Oscars in a single night. The other nominees of this category included Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), James Mangold (A Complete Unknown), Jacques Audiard (Emilia Perez), Coralie Fargeat (The Substance).
Anora also took home the award for Writing (Original Screenplay). This award was given to the writer, Sean Baker. The other nominees included The Brutalist (written by Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold), A Real Pain (written by Jesse Eisenburg), September 5 (written by Moritz Binder, Tim Fehlbaum; co-written by Alex David) and The Substance (written by Coralie Fargeat.)
Lastly, the film was awarded the Best Film Editing. The nominees for this category included The Brutalist, Conclave, Emilia Perez, and Wicked.
Wicked’s Success
To start, Ariana and Cynthia channeled their characters Glinda and Elphaba and started the Oscars by singing a few of the most popular Wicked songs including “Defying Gravity” which is one of the most known songs from the movie.
The Oscar’s had many notable winners from this year’s award show. One of the most popular films featured Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo film “Wicked.” The film earned 10 Oscar nominations and was in the running for the night’s biggest awards – Best Picture. The film ended up going home with two of the ten nominations, Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.
Many people praised the Wicked cast for their achievements in the movie. For example, Victoria Justice said “I’m so happy for her (Ariana Grande), she absolutely crushed it.”
Canon O’Brien: After the Oscars
Canon O’Brien is a television host, comedian, writer, actor, and producer. He is best known for hosting late night talk shows such as Late Night with Conan O’brien and The Tonight Show with Canon O’Brien and this year he had the opportunity to host the 2025 Oscar Awards.
After the show was finished, he stated that he had proposed new ideas for the show and were later blocked due to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences strict rules about their iconic Oscars statue, which is named Oscar.
On March 13th he said “At one point, I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if it’s just on the couch? Let’s lay it on a really big couch and i’ll be vacuuming and say, ‘Could you at least lift your feet? Or could you at least get up and help? Load the dishwasher?”
As expected, the Oscars team responded with “No, no, no that can’t happen.”
Red Carpet Fashion
Vanessa Hudgens
Vanessa Hudgens, actress and singer, who is best known for her role in High School Musical, was seen at the Oscars walking the Red Carpet for the first time since having her baby. Vanessa wore a black, one shoulder gown by Dolce & Gabbana with feather embellishments and a high slit.
This Red Carpet appearance is important because it is exactly one year since Vanessa announced her pregnancy at the 2024 Oscars.
Coco Gauff
Coco Gauff is a professional tennis player with a ranking number 2 in singles and number 1 in doubles in the world. She made her WTA Tour debut in March 2019 at the Miami Open at the age of 15. She recently just started the 2025 season by winning the United Cup.
At the Oscars, she was wearing a custom yellow Miu Miu gown.
Kelly Ripa
Kelly Ripa is an actress and talk show host and has been a co-host of the popular talk show Live! with Kelly and Mark. She is best known for her roles in All My Children and Hope & Faith.
Kelly and her husband, Mark, both walked the Red Carpet. She showed up in a sleeveless burnt orange gown and Mark wore a classic suit.
Timothee Chalamet
Timothee Chalamet is an actor who started his career in 2007. He has been in many popular television shows and movies. A very popular film that he played a role in was the musical film, Wonka.
At the Oscars, he walked the red carpet in an all yellow suit.
Doja Cat
Doja Cat is a singer and songwriter with many popular hits. She also had the opportunity to sing at this year’s Oscar Awards.
She attended the Oscars and appeared in three different outfits. They were all very different and covered in beads, crystals, and sequins.
