Coachella weekend 1 just wrapped up and WOW… it was everything. From the surprise guests to insane stage setups, it seriously felt like every artist came to show out. If you didn’t make it out to the desert (or if you are still recovering from the dust), here’s a quick breakdown of what went down. There was a sense of nostalgia looking at all the celebrity outfits and other festival-goers’ vibes this year that brought people back to 2017 Coachella where there were flower crowns and long skirts.
Headliners Went Off:
Lady Gaga = Mother
Gaga headlined Friday and honestly, it felt more like a Broadway show than a festival set – in the best way possible. She split her set into five acts, (yes, FIVE), rocked a bunch of wild outfits, and took us on a full emotional rollercoaster. She dropped her new tracks from her Mayhem album, but also gave us the classies like “Bad Romance”. The stage design? Wild. The drama? Maxed out.
Charlie XCX Brought the Whole Internet With Her
Saturday night was a whole event with Charlie XCX. She brought out Troye Sivan, Lorde, and Billie Eilish, and the crowd lost their minds. It felt like a hyperpop fever dream and I’m still not over it.
Post Malone = Gender Bender Supreme
Posty closed out Sunday and he was genre-hopping all over the place – from rap to country to acoustic ballads. Somehow it all worked. He’s seriously in his “do whatever I want” era, and it’s kinda iconic.
Surprise Appearances We Did Not See Coming
Coachella artists are known for bringing out special guests during their sets. This year, Benson Boone brought out guitarist Brian May to sing “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The impact that this had on the crowd watching was electric. May was Queen’s guitarist, so Benson bringing him out to perform at Coachella was quite the statement to be made. Megan Thee Stallion also brought out artists Ciara and Queen Latifah making it a girl superpower trio performance during her set. The vibes were a 10/10.
Although this was not a guest appearance, actress and famous K-Pop star, Lisa, performed at Coachella and she made social media headlines all weekend. Lisa is popularly known for her role in tv series, The White Lotus, that had just finished premiering a few weeks ago. The crowd was stunned to see the actress in her true colors as a pop star. Many co-stars were in attendance for her performance to support her during her Coachella debut.
Festival Trends & Real Talk
Alert! New festival trend that has come into Coachella this year. Many people who attend rave festivals for EDM music are known for “sprouting” others. Basically, people are clipping plant sprouts on each other’s outfits like an accessory. This is very popular for other festivals, but something that is new to Coachella festival goers. Similar idea to flower crowns, but way more eco-core.
If you’ve been to the desert for any festival, you know that there are typically transportation via pedicab. But this year? None. The pedicab drama has been circulating social media as people do not have the option to hop on a pedicab to take them from the entrance of the festival into the actual grounds. Instead, the only mode of transportation is by foot. Many people were complaining about the lengths of which they had to walk in the desert heat to get into the festival. Touch scene.
What’s In Store For Week 2?
Coachella weekend 2 is set and ready to go. The same main headliners will be performing this weekend. I am interested to see if the sets are the same or will there be some variation? New special guest appearances? What will all the drama be about this week? Stay tuned for a Coachella Weekend 2 recap next week!
