Sundays in Tuscaloosa usually feel pretty slow. Whether you’re recovering from the night before, watching Sunday football, or getting school work done, the town just moves slower on Sundays. Unless you are trying to get some breakfast or brunch. Those that do, know the struggle of waitlists and busy restaurants. That is why my girlfriend, Maven and I decided to try something more casual to save some time. Find out what the quickest Sunday brunch in Tuscaloosa is.Â
Usually our go-to spot when we are feeling brunch on Sundays is the Waffle House. We will drive a little further from campus down Skyland Blvd because that one usually has the shortest wait times. Today though, Sunday before finals week, we did not have time to wait around. So, at 9:45 we got in the car and went to 7brew for some energy drinks. While this is already a very popular spot, and neither of us really get anything special it is always good. Sometimes in the mornings, 7brew will have zero line, while on other mornings the line is clogging up 15th street. It wasn’t too bad this morning, there was a decent line but they always move pretty quickly. Once it was our turn to order, Maven got her usual sugar-free energy with strawberry, almond, and white chocolate. I got my typical 7energy with blue-rasberry, lime and coconut. I half-way think it is a menu item but I am not entirely sure so I just say the flavors each time.Â
With our caffeine acquired, we made our way to the Whataburger off Skyland Blvd. In our experience, this is the best and only Whataburger worth going to in Tuscaloosa. Particularly for breakfast. Maven always tells me that being in line and taking a while to get your food is all a part of the Whataburger experience. But with this Whataburger that is not always the case. So she ordered her sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit and I got my bacon, egg, and cheese taquito. The portions at this Whataburger are also often more generous than the other locations. We parked in the parking lot and had our car picnic with 7brew and Whataburger.Â
Even after waiting at 7brew then driving to Whataburger and waiting probably around seven minutes, we finished our meals and were working on our final assignments in no time. If we had chosen Waffle House like we normally do, who knows how much longer that could have taken. So there you have it, the quickest brunch in Tuscaloosa is really just two drive-thru’s. All in all, you spend about twenty to twenty-five dollars if you are paying for two. It may not be the fanciest brunch, but it is the quickest Sunday brunch I have found in Tuscaloosa.
