Chicks Picks: What’s going on in sports?

Share

This week’s blog is comprised of everything you all love SO much. From sports predictions to outfits, we are covering all bases. Buckle up while we tackle all topics from Major League Baseball to styling looks.

Texas Rangers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks—MLB World Series and Rating Blues

First, we have to talk about the closing of the Major League Baseball season. The Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks faced off in an underwhelming World Series. According to Forbes, this year’s World Series was the least-watched ever.  The low ratings are due in part to both teams’ popularity and the National Football League being in the thick of their regular season as well. These low ratings made history three times in only three games. According to data collected by Nielsen, an average of 9.17 million people watched the first game of the World Series, making it the lowest-rated game one in World Series history. The second game had an even lower rating at 8.15 million viewers. If you thought this was low, game three went even lower. Game three averaged 8.13 million. It was streamed at the same time as an NFL game. It is quite evident which game viewers picked to see.

All in all, the Texas Rangers were too much for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Rangers won in a dominating 4-1 fashion, winning the fourth game 5-0. Hopefully, the state of Texas will enjoy this major victory that seems no one else is enjoying.

Detroit Lions vs. Las Vegas Raiders

The Detroit Lions and Las Vegas Raiders faced off on Monday Night Football in a breakout game for Lions running back and former Alabama player Jahmyr Gibbs. The Lions outplayed the Raiders with just about everything. The Lions had 486 total yards, 264 of those being passing and an even 222 being rushing while the Raiders only had 157 yards, 77 passing yards, and 80 rushing yards. The Lions averaged six yards per play and the Raiders averaged 3.5 yards per play. From those stats, we can clearly see that the Lions’ offense had a much better game than the Raiders’ offense (and this was even articulated by Raiders running back and former Alabama player, Josh Jacobs) but the Lions’ defense also put up much greater numbers. The Lions had six sacks on Raiders quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo and forced an interception. On the other hand, the Raiders’ defense only produced one sack and one interception on Jared Goff while allowing him to score a touchdown. All in all, the Lions beat the Raiders out at everything from leading passer, rusher, and receiver to the overall game score. Be on the lookout for the Detroit Lions and our Bama boys, Jahmyr Gibbs and Brian Branch.

Gameday Outfits for Him and Her

The cold months are here in sunny Tuscaloosa, Alabama. We all know that means wardrobe change! With the weather in the south sitting at temps below freezing, and northern cities going as low as…well lower than below, it can be pretty hard finding an outfit that is cute and appropriate for the weather. Many make the choice of bundling up or beauty is pain.

Look One:

Here we have supermodel Bella Hadid sporting a National Hockey League jersey for the New York Rangers. Switch that jersey out for any other or your team favorite and you still have a very cool look. Because of this outfit’s versatility, anyone can pull this look off with minor edits and alterations. The boots bring this look together for me, and the peekaboo moment makes th shoes stand out even more. I loveeee this outfit and might be trying it myself.

Look Two:

To avoid being sued I decided to go with an outfit board type of style. So, I hope everyone enjoys my Canva art :)))). I like to call this look an oldie but goodie. It is traditional, quite classic, and literally anyone can pull it off. In the hotter months/states ditch the turtleneck, swap the boots out for sneakers and add a pair of sunglasses, and you have a year-round look. The examples in the image provided are from a variety of stores. The oversized jersey is from Urban Outfitters, although it is sold out. That specific turtleneck is from Cider and the boots are from an Amazon boutique, Shoe ‘N Tale. Obviously, this a look that can and should customized to your liking and brand liking. As a reminder, accessorizing always brings an outfit to life. So, do not forget your clear bag bracelets and a cute button.

Look Three:

With look three we are going to focus on outfits for him.

Pictured above is Stefon Diggs, wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills, courtesy of Essence Magazine. In this look, Diggs has on a matching coat with bottoms. Although sometimes matching sets can come across as dull or plain, this set is far from it. Based on this look, people can do a variety of looks. Grab a matching set and your favorite shoes and hit the ground running. Same for the guys, do not forget to accessorize and add your own flare to every outfit listed.
