Designing a room that’s not just functional but also reflects your personal style can be a thrilling yet overwhelming task. Luckily, with the power of Canva, envisioning and creating your dream room has never been easier. Whether you’re planning a chic and cozy bedroom for a young girl or an inspiring space for anyone, Canva offers the tools you need to bring your vision to life. Let’s dive into how Canva can help you design your dream room and explore some of the key products that can make your space truly special.
Designing Your Room with Canva
- Start with a Template: Begin by choosing a template that matches the room layout you’re envisioning. Canva offers various templates for interior design, or you can start from scratch.
- Select a Color Scheme: Use Canva’s color palette tools to choose a color scheme that reflects the mood you want to create.
- Add Furniture and Decor Elements: Search Canva’s library for images of furniture, rugs, curtains, and other decor items. Drag and drop these elements into your design to see how they fit together. If there are specific items, you can easily drag and drop them from the web and insert them on the template.
- Experiment with Layouts: Adjust the placement of your elements to find the most harmonious arrangement. Canva’s grid and alignment tools help ensure everything is perfectly positioned.
- Incorporate Text: Add text elements to label different areas or describe the features of the room. This can be helpful if you’re creating a mood board or presenting your design to others.
- Review and Revise: Canva’s real-time editing allows you to make changes on the fly. Tweak your design until it aligns perfectly with your vision.
Showcase: A Cute Room Designed for Girls
Let’s explore a beautifully designed room for girls and see how Canva can help you envision each element.
- Bedding and Furniture:
- Bed: A white bed frame with a tufted headboard creates a soft and inviting focal point. This also allows you to be creative in color with the rest of your room. It is tasteful and timeless.
- Bedding: For the bedding we chose a simple white duvet bedding to give the bed texture and volume to fill the room. Personally, I would choose one with embroidered lining that corresponds to the pillows. As far as pillows, go all out. Etsy is a great way to get personalized, one of a kind pillows that are affordable and support small businesses. We chose three euros, two throws, and one lumbar to make it aesthetically pleasing. Our best tip for pillows is the inside! Invest in down pillows that are one size too big for the pillow covers. This will give them the same and the iconic pillow chop. You’re never too old to monogram.
- Loveseat: A loveseat with a pop of color can elevate the whole vibe of a room. Placing a loveseat or two identical chairs at the end of a bed, can elongate a bed and add personality to the room. When looking for these items it’s important to find a color or pattern that you love. The more unique, the better. We suggest looking on Facebook Marketplace or estate sales to find one of a kind pieces. Sometimes people pick the loveseat first and design the room around that. It is equally important to add fun pillows to your loveseat.
- Decor and Accessories:
- Rug: A green and blue floral rug that fills the room and also brightens the floor space. Ebay is the best place to find expensive rugs for less. Oftentimes, a rug may have a stain on the back or a loose thread. These are issues that can’t be seen, but also can’t be sold at full price. Right now we are obsessed with floral and trellis rugs.
- Curtains: Light, airy curtains that are light blue to help to brighten the room and let in natural light. Also a valence can make your room go from status quo to making people think you hired an interior designer. There are plenty of youtube videos and tiktoks that teach you how to make your own, or you can get this custom valance from Etsy.
- Wall Art: The matching wall art above the nightstands create a pretty visual that brightens and enhances the room overall. Having wall art is essential for adding character to a room and making it more intricate than a plain wall. However, many people lack the design skills to do so properly. There is such a thing as bad wall art! Tune in to our livestream next week where we talk about design fails! While you’re waiting you can order the wall art we chose.
- Storage Solutions:
- Two nightstand dressers that allow you to store clothes outside of closet space. Storage is one of the most pivotal things in a room. In fact, we chose two children dressers and are using them as nightstands for maximum storage. This eliminates the need for an actual dresser or wardrobe. To elevate a simple nightstand add fun knobs.
- Lighting:
- Lamp: Two lamps that match each other in design will not only help enhance the overall image of the room, but the additional low-lighting will create a more laid-back/cozy mood in the space. To enhance symmetry, place each lamp in the center of each nightstand.
- It is the little things:
- Name Pillow: The “Georgia” pillow adds personality to the room and makes it unique.
- Flowers: Having fresh flowers can bring life into the space and are the perfect decoration and monthly activity to create.
- Tissue covers: Have a box of tissues? Don’t let the terrible cardboard graphic design disrupt the flow of your room. Tissue covers come in different sizes, materials, and designs. This little design improvement can add intentionality and improve the quality of your room design.
- Wallpaper: Wallpaper will never go outdated. Well, maybe certain designs or patterns. But, adding wallpaper can transform your room into feeling new and fresh. We chose a green grasscloth for added texture and color. If you are leasing, that’s no problem! Get peel n stick.
