Last Monday, Kate and I finally had a chance to visit Roll Call, the recently opened rooftop bar at the Hotel Alamite in Tuscaloosa that has been the talk of the town. We arrived around happy hour, eager to see what all the excitement was about, only to discover that there was no happy hour. Not to worry! We soon forgot about that thanks to the great views from the rooftop and the friendly greetings from the staff. We took a seat as the sun was setting and made the decision to sample their known espresso martinis. They lived up to their reputation—they were flavorful and rich!
For food, Kate had the sliders, describing them as tasty and juicy, while I had the chicken sandwich, which was amazing—perfectly cooked and seasoned. Crispy fries were a side dish that accompanied both entrée and were the ideal addition to our dinners. As we finished our espresso martinis, we wanted to try one more drink on the menu, so we opted in for the margaritas. Since I’m not big on tequila, Kate enjoyed her margarita more than I did, but I still thought it was a pleasant way to close the evening. We had an amazing time at Roll Call overall, and we can’t wait to return for more!
Now, let’s get into the ratings as we look forward to diving deeper into each rating for each item we ordered, sharing our thoughts on what made each dish and drink stand out.
To kick off our ratings, we first tried the espresso martini, which we both thought had an amazing flavor and received a perfect 1. We made a joke about how it tasted like chocolate milk and how we could drink five of these with ease! We were less thrilled with the presentation, though; I awarded it a 3 since it appeared a little watered down, while Kate gave it a 4 because there were no espresso beans. For price vs quality we both decided to give the score a 3 because the $15 price tag felt reasonable, even though the waiter’s accidental spill on Kate’s purse was a letdown. Although we liked the scent, we didn’t think the fragrance had the distinctive espresso bean smell, so we gave it a 2 .
Now for the margarita: we both rated the flavor a 1 because it had the ideal balance and was among our best we ever had! We decided to give the presentation a 3 because it was a little on the little side and didn’t really stand out. A two for price versus quality because it was less expensive than the espresso martini. Although I’m not a huge lover of tequila, I awarded it a 3 for fragrance, whereas Kate gave it a 2 because she liked the way it smelled.
As for our main courses, the fried chicken crispy sandwich was amazing! Both of us gave the flavor a one, especially the signature sauce. Additionally, the presentation received a 1 because of the perfectly plated fries. Price to quality was rated at three; it wasn’t incredibly low, but it seemed fair considering the amount of food. I gave the fragrance a two since I liked the smell of freshly fried chicken, while Kate gave it a three because she thought it didn’t have a strong scent.
Finally, the sliders received a mixed review: I gave them a 2 because I’m not a huge burger fan, while Kate rated them a stellar 1, raving about their flavor. We both thought these were the ideal size with fries, therefore the presentation score was a solid 1. We decided to give it a 3 for price against quality because, while it was a reasonable price, it could have been somewhat less. Kate gave it a 2 for fragrance since she loved the smell of pickles, whereas I gave it a 3 because I couldn’t pick up a smell. All in all, we are quite pleased with our selections and highly recommend Roll Call. We are excited to return!
