Everything you need to know about the Oscars

On this week’s Twitch stream, we are going to be talking about everything that has to do with the Oscars. The Academy Awards, it is known as the Oscars is an award ceremony for the American film industry. These rewards are recognized as one of the most prestigious award ceremonies in the entertainment industry in the United States. Each reward is shown as an acknowledgment of excellence in the cinematic world. There are various categories that you can win. If you do win you will receive a golden statuette as a trophy. The first ceremony happened on May 16, 1929, at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel with only an audience of about 270 people. Today the theater where the awards take place seats around three thousand people. Very recently the 95th Academy Award nominees have come out. They came on January twenty-fourth and the award ceremony will take place on March twelfth this year. The ceremony always takes place at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. This ceremony will be honoring movies released in 2022.

Some of the categories include “Actor in a leading role” and the nominees are Austin Bulter, Colin Farrell, Brendan Faser, Paul Mescal, and Bill Nighty. Another category is “Actor in a supporting role” some of the nominees include Brendan Gleeson, Brian Tyree Hengry, Judd Hirsch, Barry Keoghan, and Ke Huy Quan. Now to get into some of the Actress nominees, “Actress in a leading role” nominees include Cate Blanchett, Ana De Armas, Andrea Riseborrough, Michelle Williams, and Michelle Yeoh. Then there are “Actress in a supporting role” nominees including Angela Bassett, Hong Chau, Kerry Condon, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Stephanie Hsu. Then some other categories include Animated Feature Film, Cinematography, Costume Designs, directing, Documentary feature film, and so forth. Our target audience is a little all over the place. Mostly college students and high school students but it ranges. From ages fifteen all the way up to fifties. I feel like everyone watches the Oscars and if they aren’t watching it for the awards they are watching it for the fashion of the nominees or other reasons. But the Oscars is very popular among Americans. In the platforms we are posting to our goal is to have our viewers have something to click on that brings them to our twitch. To inform our audience of all the nominees. Also, possibly for our viewers to have something new that they want to watch. A new movie that has been nominated multiple times that they have been interested in watching. Quentin and I also do have our opinions of who we think should win and our Oscar nominations for actors that are not even in the running. I feel like every year there is always a movie that was not elected that should have been. Even actors that aren’t nominated deserved to be. I really do believe that Austin Butler did an amazing job in the movie Elvis. The movie was released this past summer and this movie has gotten a lot of recognition so far. Austin Butler has also been nominated for many awards and so has the film itself. I believe this Movie and Austin Butler should win. I also believe that The Whale deserves a lot of recognition and that it might be a little overlooked. The movie is based on the writer’s life story which is very interesting.

So what also comes with the Oscars is all the iconic and memorable moments. There have been countless memories that have been made at this award ceremony. The fashion of the Oscars also plays a huge role in the ceremony. Everyone comes dressed all out head to toe in their best outfits. These actors and actresses are showing up in some designer brands such as Valentino, Prada, Versace, Christian Dior, and many more. Some of my favorite outfits were when Jennifer  Lawrence wore her Christian Dior cream and light pink puffy dress in 2013. Another favorite dress of mine is when Jessica Alba wore a gold Versace dress in 2006. Audrey Hepburn wore a beautiful Givenchy white dress embroidered with flowers when she got an Oscar in 1953. A few years ago in 2019, Billy Porter wore a suit and a dress in one. The top of the outfit was a suit and the bottom was a gown, and they were both attached, he really made a statement. Spike Lee wore a Gucci suit that was purple and yellow and had the number 24 on it, and it was a contribution to Kobe, who passed away earlier that year. Cher had many iconic moments she wore this silver sparkly gown that also had a headpiece. She stood out even more because not many people wear headpieces.

Of course, all the outfits are so memorable but also there are many moments at the Oscars no one can forget. When Tatum O’Neal became the youngest Oscar winner in history, he was just ten years old. I will also never forget the Ellen DeGeneres selfie. The photo featured Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and many others. When Jennifer Lawrence tripped on stage, “You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell,” said Lawrence in her acceptance speech. When Leonardo DiCaprio finally wins his Oscar, after years of being nominated. In 2020 when Eminem returned, I don’t think anyone was expecting that one. Then I think the most iconic moment was in 2022 when Will Smith smacked Chris Rock. I am counting down the days till this year’s award ceremony. Don’t forget to tune in on March 12, 2023, on channel ABC to watch the  95th Oscar Awards!
