Foodies review Heritage House

Share

So, here’s the deal. Breakfast is the best meal of the day, and there is nothing that any person can say to me that would change my mind. I have the fondest memories of waking up at my great grandmother’s house and smelling the sausage gravy that she would make. There has to be a study somewhere that proves how eating a good, full meal at breakfast helps us to have a better day. That is a different blog, though. We talk about food over here.

The undisputed king of breakfast dining is Waffle House. You can say what you want to say about how the kitchen is dirty or how it smells like cigarettes. I don’t want to hear it. Those cooks could chef at Ruth’s Chris. Tell me one thing a Ruth’s Chris chef can do that a Waffle House cook cannot do.

Apart from Waffle House, there are some pretty good spots to go eat breakfast in Tuscaloosa. To commemorate the first breakfast food review from Foodies in Ttown I went to a local favorite- Heritage House.

The first thing I think about when I think of Heritage House is the overwhelming population of females there working on their computers. Did you think I meant working on important things like their school degree or job applications? Sorry but no. They go there to edit pictures and make Instagram stories saying how their coffee order reflects which enneagram number they are. I apologize if you feel attacked. I’m just here to speak the truth.

Let’s get on with it. The food. They have a pretty darn big menu PLUS about 100 different kinds of muffins. The menu consists of various kinds of breakfast sandwiches, omelets and other breakfast creations. I remember getting their breakfast quesadilla once which was tasty. I have also had the regular quesadilla that they serve for lunch which was tasty as well.

Back in the day, before gluten was an issue for me, I remember having a few of their different kinds of muffins. I have to say that those are some good muffins. They make them fresh, and you can tell that they really care about what they serve out of the bakery. The muffins are rich with flavor and melt in your mouth like your great uncle’s barbeque. Yum.

What did I order then if everything there has bread? I am so glad that you asked. Heritage House is not a completely gluten free kitchen, but they do offer gluten free bread with any of their sandwiches. Praise God for that or else I would have gone home hungry.

My order was the breakfast sandwich. Pretty clever name if you ask me. This sandwich comes with scrambled eggs and a melted slice of cheese with your choice of bacon, sausage, turkey sausage or avocado. Normally I would get the bacon, but I was feeling wild and got the avocado.

It was a pretty decent sandwich. Nothing crazy stood out to me. The eggs were cooked just as well as I cook them at home. The cheese tasted like it came from a cow. The avocado was fresh and paired well with the eggs. I have nothing bad to say at all about the contents in the sandwich, but I also do not have anything spectacular to say.

The gluten free bread was on par with the rest of the meal. It was good but not the best that I have ever eaten. I do not know if they make it in house. I would assume that they do not, but I have been wrong before in my life. I really wish I had more to say about the food. There just is not a lot to talk about because of how boring it honestly was.

I also cannot have caffeine. I live a fun life. I am going to base my review of the coffee on how my girlfriend and fellow food enthusiast described it. The coffee is far superior to Starbucks coffee. The roast that they serve in their Heritage House Special is always rich and pairs well with the chocolate and caramel in it. It is their signature coffee for a reason, folks!

I would have to give my meal at Heritage House a B. It was good and filling, but it lacked a signature touch to the food that would distinguish it from something I made at home. It was also eight dollars. It probably took them no more than one dollar to make it. It is a great place to go “study” or catch up with a friend. The atmosphere is top-tier and the coffee is great, but I would recommend just spending an extra 15 minutes at home making breakfast.
