Healthy Drink Options For Spring Break!

Share

As many of you know spring break season is upon us. A tale as old as time, is that people on spring break gain unwanted weight during their vacations. However, that has not stopped many people from still enjoying themselves. Now if I am being honest here, there is not really a way where you can stay completely healthy, but there are ways that you can keep a balance, and limit the damage that you do to your body. As of recently, many companies have come out with a lot of low calorie options that are good for staying healthy while also having a good time. In that case, have no fear. We have come up with some options that are easy to find in most places of the world. A lot of these are probably drinks that you already heard of, or drinks that people would consider boring. That is why we tried to come up with a list of some cocktails that you do not see everyday that you can make in order to stay healthy while enjoying yourself on vacation. Also, do not forget to stay hydrated!

Now before we kick off our little blog about all of these types of alcoholic drinks, remember that these are not the tastiest drinks you can possibly find. These are the HEALTHIEST. These options are also tasty as well, but if you’re looking to drink a strawberry margarita, by all means go for it, but it is most likely not the healthiest option.

Alright, so as you guys know over the recent few years alcoholic seltzers have begun to make a big appearance in the beverage scene. A lot of companies advertise the low calorie, while also being tasty as a way to attract customers to their product. However, some of these are filled with sugar and a lot of unwanted additives that make the drink a lot less healthy. The first seltzer I am going to talk about is the Michelob Ultra Organic Seltzer. This is essentially the premium healthy hard seltzer drink, you will have a tough time finding better than this. It has only 80 calories, 0g carbs, and 0g sugar. This is as anabolic of a seltzer as it gets. Now, the next seltzer that I recommend is the Flying Embers Hard Seltzer. This is also a healthier option, with also only having 95 calories, 0g carbs, and 0g sugar. The only downside to this seltzer is that it might be difficult to find. However, if you can get your hands on it, the drink also contains a 5% ABV as opposed to the Michelob which is only 4%, so you will feel the effects of the alcohol a little more. Next up, we have the Vizzy Hard Seltzer. The macros on this are 100 calories, 2g sugar, 1g carbs which is also one of the healthier options that you can buy. Now the last seltzer that I am going to leave you guys with is the Oasis Premium Hard Seltzer. This might be more difficult to find than some of the last options that I gave you, but this specific seltzer actually contains 40 mg of potassium, and 10 grams of vitamin C. Also it contains 100 calories, 1g carbs and 1g sugars. These seltzers are mostly found at any convenient store, and all sell for relatively the same price.

Now for the fun part. Even though these seltzers that are coming out are easy, and can make things fun, there really is nothing like making and enjoying a cocktail. Most of these cocktails you can buy at any bar, some are depending on if the bar has to correct ingriedients, but we’ll focus on healthy cocktails that you would make in your house as well. For this part, I also tried to go with options that will be tasty as well. So that way, you can actually have fun with the drink and not dread every sip. Also, I am one that looks at making a cocktail as some sort of art form. So I will try to keep these from being boring drinks. Now, before I get into the cocktails something I figured I would mention is specifically for you wine drinkers. White wine is fairly low calorie, and there are a few different options to choose from. However, there is a decent amount of sugar in white wine. For the most part though if you are a big wine drinker, than you probably don’t care much about the sugar it contains. To start off though I will say, any sort of vodka with either club soda or water will probably be the healthiest cocktail that you could make while being on spring break. You can either add a lime or a lemon depending on your choice, or if you want to get really into it you can add lime or lemon juice. To go along with this, you can also order a tequila with club soda, or a tequila with water. It really all is personal preference there, just depending on what liquor you prefer. That sounds boring though doesn’t it? If you’re anything like me you like to spice things up while drinking, it keeps you on your toes. Now once again, before I get into the rest of the cocktails, these are going to be recipes that you can make at your hotel, or wherever you are staying for spring break. You may not be able to get them all depending on where you are ordering a drink. A vodka or tequila with club soda or water you can get at any bar that you please. The first drink is a personal favorite. People may consider this a boring cocktail, and it makes me upset. That is a general opinion. You guessed it, it is a dry martini. Even though I think they personally taste better the dirtier they are, a dry martini is still tasty and is lower in calories than a dirty one. These martinis are made with gin and vermouth, and the main difference is a dry martini just has less vermouth in it. They are also topped off with olives that add a perfect flavor to the drink. The next is a Paloma. A Paloma is an extremely refreshing drink that is made with tequila, lime juice and grapefruit juice with a splash of club soda over ice. It literally tastes like a tropical paradise. Most places you get it also salt the brim which gives it a better flavor which is a great added touch.

These next few drinks are going to be some at home recipes that you can make in your hotel or wherever you are staying. A lot of these recipes have ingredients that are lower calorie options, so when you are buying make sure that you are buying the correct ones. Now, I am a sucker for good Old Fashioned. I know this may seem like it is just a blog about my personal pallet, but bear with me. I promise it is not. This Old Fashioned recipe is only 100 calories! All it contains is a lower calorie simple syrup, bitters, water, whiskey or bourbon (your choice), an orange peel, and a cocktail cherry for making the presentation spectacular. It tastes just like a traditional old fashioned, and if you are one that likes whiskey drinks I would definitely give this one a try. The  next recipe that I have for you guys is for those with a big sweet tooth. This strawberry mojito is not only refreshing and tastes like a break from reality, it is also low calorie. The ingredients for this simple strawberry mojito are honey, strawberries, water, lime seltzer, lime juice, white rum and mint leaves. Now, that sounds like a lot but trust me, this drink will leave your taste buds wanting more. I feel like it would not be a spring drink blog unless the godfather of tropical drinks was not included. That is none other than the Malibu Bay Breeze (a healthy version). This healthy version of the Malibu Bay Breeze contains none other than cranberry juice (unsweetened if you can find it), coconut and pineapple extract, and rum. It is a simple ingredient and trust me this drink literally tastes like a sunset on the beach. These drinks will keep you having fun and staying in shape throughout spring break.

Always remember though. Stay hydrated while having fun in the sun. You do not want to dehydrate yourself, and get sick that will result  in fun for absolutely no one. Keep a lot of liquid IVs on deck, drink a lot of water, make sure to eat healthy dense meals and everything will be fine. This will also help you not get as hungover the next day, and may even allow you to get a little workout in if you’re feeling up to it! Most of all though, be safe and have fun on your vacation to wherever it is that your heart desires!
