How music has changed over time & best songs of 2022

Share

Trying to determine what makes a song great might be incapable. Music has been a part of the lives of millions and millions for so many years now, and it is always evolving. New genres, and styles all revolve around the world of music. Then I think about what exact factors cause changes in music trends. Thinking of all the trending music last year in 2022, I feel like the genres were all over the place. Whenever I get the chance to put on music I always take it. Whether when it’s on my walk to class, in the car or doing homework and studying. I think that goes for a majority of people as well. Last year we had some real bangers that have come into this year and are still trending. I think it’s so interesting to think about how music has changed so much over time. With time more and more instruments have introduced to musicians and people started to play them with others. This creates more complex rhythms and beats that also change along with the culture. Music trends and styles are also drastically influenced by history. When I think back to quarantine in early 2020 many tracks come to my head. The first one “Say So” by Doja Cat, whenever that song comes on I think of COVID and that specific time. I think of being home and scrolling on TikTok and making dancing videos that that exact song. Another is “Bored in the house” I know this isn’t technically a full song, but It comes to my head when I think of this era. One last song I tie with quarantine COVID era is “Supalonely” I have vivid memories of my friends and sending each other’s videos we made dancing to this song.

Let’s go over the different years and how time has influenced each era. In the 1920s the invention of the radio came out. That changed much for many people you could finally listen to music for free technically. Then in the 1930s this time was considered to be Jazz and blues. Jazz was spread all over the world in the 30s, but it was still forbidden. The electric guitar became very popular in the 30s as well. In the 1940s this time was highly impacted by the Second World War. Jazz and blues was still very popular, but many songs came out that were related to the war and to entertain the troops who were a part of the war. Songs came out to encourage soldiers to not lose hope. The 1950s took a wild turn and this was a huge era of change for many. Rock and Roll took over all over. Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry were some of the pop idols breaking records for millions all over. I will forever love Elvis Presley, and I will always listen to his music. Some of my favorite songs are his Christmas covers. I think he was a huge inspiration to many people. Then moving on to the 1960s this time was considered the golden period in the history of music. Some of the most well-known names came from this time encoding The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and many more. This time was when blues rock and psychedelic rock became very popular. Moving into the 1970s when disco music became the new favorite among many. Some popular artists include Queen, Elton John, and Rod Stewart. Punk and rock also took off. In the 1980s modern rock was the new hit. Also, heavy metal, alternative Rock, and contemporary R&B. This was Michael Jacksons peak era of music and when he was the most popular. Then the 1990s rolled around and hip-hop was popping. Even though singer Whitney Houston was very famous at this time people got more and more into hip hop and rap. Moving into more recent the 2000s, many genres were popular then like hip hop music, punk rock electronic dance music, and country music. Still to this day, I listen to a lot of music that came out in this era and these artists will remain on playlists. Some of my favorite artists from this time include Eminem, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Ciara, and Coldplay.

Now let’s get into all the trending music and albums of 2022. Here is a list of some songs that came out last year that I think were the most Popular. Starting off strong with As It Was by Harry Styles, I think this song is very popular among many age groups and still to this day is on the top charts. Then Bad Habit by Steve Lacy, I believe the peak of This song was in July. I just remember during the summer I would put this song on replay and I loved it and I still do. Then I think the next song would be About Damn Time by Lizzo. I think that every girl boss had this on their playlist and that’s all I have to say. Pushing P by Future was also one of my favorites that came out last year. When it came out I believe it was at the very beginning of the year and my friends and I would play it in the car all the time. Another song that hit a lot of the billboards was Heatwaves by Glass Animals. This one was very popular among the younger generations. Stay by Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber was also very popular. Now let’s get into the popular albums of 2022. The first one that comes to my mind is Midnights by Taylor Swift, I remember the night all my friends stayed up till midnight waiting for it to drop. After that her album was all I heard when I was with my friends, so I think it definitely met everyone’s expectations. Beyoncé album Renaissance also broke records, it was very popular for quite some time. I think it is so interesting to look back on the music genres over the years, and how music has such an impact on us and so do we on it. I can’t wait to see what music will be popular among all the generations this year in 2023.
