Terraria Developers Revive the game once more with this new update

Terraria comes back once again after 3 years with fancy new features to show off. Continuing to follow its trend of random updates seemingly at the dev’s whim, but that’s just how we love it! With features the community has been asking for and incredibly creative features, it’s no secret Terraria continues to capture the attention and love of everyone who plays it. This is because of how passionate the developer is.

Back in May 2020, Re-Logic released the “Final” update to the game, or at least that’s what they said. The developers who had been involved since conception continued to work on the game, adding small updates with loads of interesting features, items, bosses, and more. Seemingly saying “but also” ad nauseam.

The Important Stuff: The Features

Moving on, I want to focus on the new key features released with this new update. Considering the sheer number of small changes, I’ll go over the most impactful ones, along with the ones the community has been wanting for ages.

  • Dungeon Re-Vamp
  • Loads of Quality of Life Improvements
  • Crafting & Inventory Management
  • NPC Housing & Management
  • Visual and Musical Upgrades
  • Tons of New Mounts, Pets, and Transformations
  • New Weapons & Gear for a class long abandoned…
  • Plenty of things to keep the other classes entertained
  • Over 20 Furniture sets
  • Several New blocks
  • Dead Cells and Palworld collab items
  • much, MUCH more

Quality of Life Improvements in 1.4.5

Above are a few preview screenshots available of some of the new changes. Some are minor but major changes to what we had before in-game. Things like the backgrounds for each biome getting a fresh coat of paint make it that much more immersive. They even drastically changed the dungeon for the first time in a long time. Going from a pretty minimal ‘hole in the wall’ type structure to a vast and imposing structure. Pictured top center is a preview of several new items in a brand new item showcasing feature with hanging jars. This will allow players to present their items in new ways. Not only that, but the new mining pet from a collaborative project with Palworld, Digtoise! Next, let’s take a look at some of the new furniture sets to spice up our builds with.

Above are some furniture sets from the new Terraria update. Many players are excited for some of these textures that were forgotten in past updates to finally get a new face. With fun minor details, for example, the snow clock being a snowman whose arms tell the time is one of my favorites. In tandem with that, the Christmas blocks got an overhaul treatment as well, giving players several new palettes to work with.

The gothic furniture set gives a use to the dungeon brick, a perfect addition to the overall dungeon overhaul. Not only that but the evil biomes were not left behind, allowing many players (me) to fulfill their dream of living in an oasis within the evil biomes.

Speaking of furnishing homes, NPCs now spawn in daily, looking for a new home when they become unlocked, leaving for the night if there is no home available. Sometimes it’s annoying to know if a house is ready for an NPC, but now there’s an easy-to-see indicator for players.

Our good friends the NPCs got a makeover with all new portraits in their dialogue boxes, finally putting a detailed face to the name.

Inventory clogging is now a thing of the past with the new banner system, introducing a whole new section of the UI just for players to collect banners when the time is right.

As for the mother of all quality of life improvements, players can now FINALLY craft from nearby storage containers rather than have everything they need in their inventory.

Quality of life improvements are always a plus, but now I’m gonna move over to the things most players care about, the loot…

New Items, New Weapons, New Summons

The new Terraria update 1.4.5 brings over 600 new items to the game, bringing the total number of items well above 6000! New vanity items, armor sets, and weapons litter this update.

Several Classic Weapons got a rework, like the phaseblade, which can now be thrown and will stab into the ground to create a barrier. The paladin’s hammer now has a secondary attack that pierces and does much more damage, making it an even more unstoppable.

Summoners are going to have a great time with the tons of new whips added. Giving the summoner class its long-awaited power spike. Many of these new whips are obtained at various stages of the game, making summoners viable at any point. Not only that, but many summons and effects were added to further spice up the gameplay.

Many fun gimmicks were added too, like the acorn slingshot, axe-rang, and killing deck. All these and more have their own unique uses.

Where Terraria is headed next

Overall, these changes are coming for the better, bringing so many more ways to play the game and have fun. The passion the developers put into Terraria keeps it revitalized as a modern classic that persists.

The developers have stated that 1.4.5 is obviously not the last update, and that they still have many plans coming soon, including cross-play between platforms, which is a huge addition in any game.

As for me though, I will be starting a playthrough to fully explore the new update and finish off the last achievement for my account. I’ll be continuing to play throughout February on the ua twitch account. Hope to see you in the stream and enjoy Terraria 1.4.5!
