Rainbow Six Siege

If you’ve ever been interested in role playing SWAT or enjoy objective based game modes then Rainbow Six is the game for you. Developed in early 2015, R6 made realistic FBI situations possible to play. The game not only teaches players about strategy but allows them to develop their own tactics in order to win the objective. Gamers can choose from three different scenarios which include Bomb Defusing, Secure the Area, and Rescue the Hostage.
While the game has gone through ups and downs over the years, the team over at Ubisoft continues to create new operators that push the game forward. In the beginning the game consisted of only 30 operators with 15 on offense and 15 on defense. Now almost 7 years later the game contains well over 60+ operators with more being released every DLC update.
Rainbow Six has become one of my favorite games to play in recent years, however it does not come without a few issues to know about. First, the competitiveness of this game is unlike any other game I have ever played before. Coming from playing Call of Duty and being used to that style of gameplay, I will tell you the change between the two is drastically different. While Call of Duty isn’t necessarily an objective based game, it does have game modes similar to Rainbow Six and is commonly played in the “run and gun” style. Operators do not exist in COD and all players are equal and are judged off weapon play.
Rainbow Six introduced the “bunker down” style and allows players to reinforce their objective and set traps with different operators. It is also a round based game in which teams of 5 have three minutes to defend or break into the objective. I had never played a game like this before and immediately fell in love with the style of play because it was different from the typical Call of Duty style. I think if you are a player looking for a more competitive online game or even a group of friends looking for a bigger challenge than I would give Rainbow Six a try.
Splatoon 1 – 3

Interested in bright colors, special attacks, lore, and weapons? Nintendo’s only true shooter, Splatoon, has it all. First released in 2015 on the WiiU, Splatoon was the underdog in Nintendo’s line up compared to bigger, already known titles; despite the fact the WiiU was their worst selling console. This new third person shooter added a more competitive element to Nintendo’s “Family Friendly” brand. The main premise of the game includes squid-kids competing in battles for fun using multiple different types of weapons, main specials and sub-specials.
Splatoon 1 had four game modes, Regular Battles which was called “Turf War”, a 4v4 online mode where the goal was to have your team ink the most areas of the map; and Ranked, which included game modes like RainMaker, SplatZones, and Tower Control. RainMaker is similar to capture the flag, there is a statue called the Rainmaker that each team is trying to get to the opposing team’s side of the map. Splatzones has a specified area that must be inked, whichever team has kept that zone their color the longest by the end of the match wins. Lastly, there is Tower Control, where any member of your team has to stand on the tower to forward it through the map to the other team’s side; whichever team rode the tower the farthest distance won. Ranked is popular among competitive players offering ranks from C- to S+ and later adding rank X in Splatoon 2. There were also “Splatfests” once a month for a year and a half where the players would pick a team, (i.e peanut butter vs jelly) and for the entire weekend, those two teams would battle. The team who won the most battles won.
Splatoon became a massive hit for Nintendo, becoming one of its top and most recognizable IP’s. With the success of Splatoon 1, Once the switch was announced, Splatoon 2 followed soon after. Released in 2017 it expanded on the lore and gameplay of its predecessor. Adding 3 new game modes, Clam Blitz (under ranked), Salmon run (PvE) and League Battles which had the exact same game modes as ranked did. More weapons, gear, and items were added weekly for the first two years of the game’s running time; as well as DLC. With the release of Splatoon 2 it soon became an official ESport with multiple tournaments.
As of February 9th, 2022 Splatoon 3 has a release date set for Summer 2022. Not much is confirmed about it yet besides the fact that it is set during a sort of apocalypse, new items, gear and the return of Salmon Run.
Military style FPS not your thing or not sure where to start in the world of shooters? Try a third person shooter with a lively fanbase, endearing characters and multiple game modes instead or as a beginning game.
Ready or Not

If you are interested in realistic first person shooters, then Ready or Not is the game for you. A SWAT focused shooter, you are put into the world of hard-charging door kickers who are trained to diffuse every situation. With game modes ranging from active shooters, to barricaded suspects or to even bomb diffusals; you and your team are tasked with completing each mission with the least amount of casualties possible. The problem lies within its ROE, or Rules of Engagement, that is the guideline that dictates when you are allowed to kill and when you are not allowed to kill. So be mindful of your trigger finger.
VOID Interactive, the game’s developer, put many hours trying to make this game as realistic as possible. In my opinion, it definitely paid off. By leaning on real police officers, they developed a game that simulates real life scenarios with real life consequences. This game requires you and your teammates to have a good form of communication. If you’re playing with your friends though, it will test your patience as well as show you that there are more chiefs than there are indians. Training in the shoot house is imperative for your team to iron out what your SOPs, Standard Operating Procedures, will be for each style room.
This game offers you the opportunity to live out your dream of kicking in doors and putting bad guys down while saving the innocent lives of the non-combatants in the building. Each team-member is equipped with flex cuffs, fancy zip tie style handcuffs, that they will use to detain anyone who surrenders. Be weary of those who are fidgety though, because they may change their mind and try to kill you if you do not detain them fast enough.
So if you have been craving a game that puts your tactics and reaction time to the test, Ready or Not is going to be the game of the year, if not the game of the century for you. So get the Standard edition with the base game for $39.99, or the Supporter edition for all the cool-guy HRT, hostage rescue team, gear for $119.99.
