I only have two words to get this party going- Smash Bros. Yes, yes, you heard me correctly. The University of Alabama’s Twitch class will be putting on gaming tournament number two on the sixteenth of this month. That means we are just one week away!
Just like last time Twelve 25 on the Strip will be our gracious hosts for this event, and it is going to be even bigger and even better than ever. There is going to be the full setup provided by UA Twitch. This means consoles, controllers, games, prizes, and more.
Twelve 25 is going to be operating on full cylinders during the tournament. That means that you can come and eat whatever you want from their crazy good menu and enjoy any of the drinks that they have. Responsibly, that is.
Smash Bros will be played on the Nintendo Switches provided by UA Twitch, but my resources tell me that there will be controller adapters. I know some of you serious gamers out there prefer using a Game Cube controller. With that being said, bring your controllers from 2004. This is the night you have been preparing for since your youth.
This tournament is every man for himself. No teams or duos. Just you and your character. Speaking of characters, you can use whoever you want. No one really cares who you use. It is going to be played classically, so pick up that hammer and blast your competitors off the map.
There is going to be a little bit different of a bracket-style than there was during the Mario Kart tournament that was held last month. For this Smash Bros tournament, there is going to be a silver bracket. Everyone else wants to call it the losers bracket, but I have been in my fair share of silver brackets before so we can keep that between us.
Come out and have a great time. As we all know, playing games is more fun with your friends. Bring them! Prove to your friends that you are the best gamer in the group. Put some money on it. Do whatever you want to do with your friends as long as you bring them.
For those of you who do not know what Smash Bros is, do not sweat it one bit. To summarize it, it is a platform game that acts as an arena. You can play as characters from your favorite universes like Mario and his company and characters from the Legend of Zelda. Could I tell you the names of said characters? No way! But who cares really, I mean none of them are inherently better than others if my memory serves me correctly.
It is going to be a fun time regardless of if you play or not. Come watch your boyfriend play. I am sure it is super attractive to watch him yell at a screen and whine about how he got knocked off the edge by a pink blob with a big mouth. What a game Smash Bros is!
There were over twenty students that competed in the Mario Kart tournament. I have no reason to believe that there will be any less than that many at this month’s event.
This will be the last tournament of the semester. If you are graduating this December, this is your last chance to leave college with anything meaningful. If you are graduating in the Spring, I still would not wait until then to compete. There could be a crazy breakout of an unknown virus that shuts down the whole world, thus diminishing any chance you would have had to make your mark on this institution. Happy gaming!
