Sounds Suspicious, Taste Delicious

Share

I scoured the internet to find the most suspicious, but allegedly delicious food combinations. I am not sure how people decide to mix two random foods together, but oftentimes it works. In addition, I have found some of the most interesting facts about food from the first food grown in space to the most stolen food in the world.

8 Weird Food Combinations

While you might have heard of some of these weird food combinations, you probably have not had the courage to try them. People love to experiment with food, and sometimes the results are quite surprising. Mixing two of your favorite foods together could result in your new favorite snack. Disclaimer: try at your own risk.

Flamin’ Hot Cheetos

Milk

According to people on the internet, milk reduces the spiciness of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. After the spices disperse into the milk, it supposedly tastes like cereal. Some people even described it as savory milk. While I am all for trying new things, I think I will stick to Cheerios.

Oreos

Spray Cheese

A while ago, a good friend of mine said he read that putting spray cheese on Oreos tasted like cheesecake. My initial thought was “What is wrong with you?,” but I had to find out myself. I bravely put the cheese on the Oreo and threw it in my mouth. After swallowing the cheese-covered Oreo, I stand firm on my question, “What is wrong with you?”

Watermelon

Mustard

Combining watermelon and mustard became a trend when Grammy Award winner Lizzo dueted a TikTok user trying the unusual combination. The sweetness of the watermelon compliments the vinegary tang of the mustard.

Peanut Butter

Sriracha

If you are planning to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and realize you are out of jelly, do not worry. Grab that sriracha sauce and slap it on your sandwich. The peanut butter dulls the spiciness of the sriracha creating a burst of new flavors. Also, turns out I have been spelling sriracha wrong my entire life. I always thought it was spelled “sirracha.”

Peanut Butter

Pickles

If you realize you are out of both jelly and sriracha, there are still options. The rich and sweet taste of peanut butter combines perfectly with the vinegary and salty taste of pickles.

French Fries

Ice Cream

Dipping french fries in ice cream has been a thing for years. The first person to try this salty and sweet combination remains a mystery, but many people credit Wendy’s for making the trend popular. The trend is so popular there are now restaurants that specialize in combining french fries and ice cream.

Bananas

Pizza

If you are one of those people who despise pineapple on pizza, consider adding bananas instead. Banana on pizza is a popular dish in Sweden. Swedes recommend adding curry to tie the dish together. This sweet, salty, and a little spicy pie might cause more controversy than pineapple on pizza.

Ketchup

Rice

Adding ketchup to rice gives it a tangy, salty, and sweet taste. The ketchup is not overpowering as some may think but rather adds a burst of flavor. I recommend cooking the ketchup into the rice rather than slathering it on top of already cooked white rice.

11 Interesting Food Facts

Food is more than just the substance that keeps you alive. It is fascinating and has interesting facts you probably will not believe. Knowing calorie amounts, what vitamins are in food, and other health benefits of food are only surface-level facts. The internet is full of interesting facts about food and it is easy to find yourself in a wormhole learning about them. Next time you are eating dinner, try researching facts about the food on your plate. Knowing these facts will surely impress your friends.

Russia classed beer and any alcoholic

beverages under 10% ABV as

soft drinks until 2011.

Before 2011, 12-year-olds in Russia could drink beer!

The most stolen food in the

world is cheese.

Cheese is a high-demand food and an easy “disposable” product for thieves looking to make fast cash. We are not talking about stealing a bag of shredded cheese from Walmart. Two men in California stole about $50,000 worth of cheese from a manufacturer between 2017 and 2019. There was also a case in Canada where a man stole $137,000 worth of cheese from a company in Ontario.

Honey is the only food that does

not go bad.

Honey is low in water and high in sugar making it impossible for bacteria to grow.

Pineapples do not grow on trees.

Instead, they grow on bushes.

If pineapples grew on trees, the branches would break off before the pineapples were ripe.

Pizza Hut was the largest purchaser

of kale until 2012.

Pizza Hut was not using kale for pizza toppings. They used it to decorate their salad bar and to keep everything cold. In 2012, Pizza Hut purchased about 14,000 pounds of kale in 2012.

The average jar of peanut butter may

contain 4 or more rodent hairs.

According to the FDA, peanut butter can have 30 or more insect fragments and one or more rodent hairs per 100 grams. I guess that is just extra protein.

Lemons float, but limes sink.

Remember that density lesson in physics?

Potatoes were the first food

planted in space.

In October 1995, NASA and the University of Wisconson, Madison created a technology that allowed potatoes to grow in space. The intent was to provide food for astronauts on long space voyages and potentially feed future space colonies. I wonder if they will have an air fryer for french fries.

Rhubarb grows so fast you can hear it.

Rhubarb grows around one inch per day which causes it to squeak, creak, and pop as it grows.

Most wasabi is just horseradish

dyed green

True wasabi is very rare, expensive, and only grows in the mountains of Japan. You most likely have never tried real wasabi.

Ketchup was once sold as medicine.

In 1834, ketchup was thought to cure diarrhea, indigestion, rheumatism, and jaundice.
