Of course, the first thing anyone thinks of when they think about The University of Alabama is football, but times are changing, and Alabama is starting to write its own narratives in all sports. From basketball making a sweet sixteen run in 2021 and following it up with yet another great season, to the softball team coming into the season with great expectations.
To start, Alabama basketball has had a back and forth year with many highs and lows, but with the season-ending, many questions begin to arise. After a strong win over Arkansas, the crimson tide moves back into the rankings at number 25. This will bid well for the Tide as they close out their season with a tough Kentucky team waiting for them in Lexington. This game will be important for Alabama’s postseason seeding in the SEC tournament as well as the NCAA tournament.
Right now, as it stands the Tide are predicted to receive a six seed in the SEC and a five seed in the NCAA. Alabama is the only ranked nine loss team and the reason for that is also the reason they have this seeding. The Alabama Crimson Tide knows how to win big games when it matters the most and therefore the decision committees love this team.
Now that basketball is covered it is time to talk about an Alabama softball team that is taking the rankings by storm. With eight SEC teams being represented in the rankings, Alabama ranks the highest of all of them after going undefeated in the first four games. The hype comes for a reason as the Tide toppled number nine Arizona in an 11-0 blowout through five innings.
This Alabama team is showing no mercy from a high-performing offense putting up lots of runs to a strong defense holding teams to less than three runs. In the first four games, Alabama has won in two big shutouts and two strong wins by four or more runs. While the softball season is just beginning, this team looks strong enough to make it to Oklahoma City in June.
On the other dirt diamond, an unranked Alabama baseball team looks to start its season strong in a home-opening series against Xavier. With eight SEC teams being represented in the rankings Alabama looks to find its way into the mix as an underdog team from the SEC. This Alabama team has been overlooked coming into the season and may bid well as there are many great teams in their schedule to take on. Only time will tell what this team is capable of, but with a long season ahead, the Tide have a lot of optimism coming into a tough year.
On the gymnastics stage, the Tide have shown to be perfect at home with four wins but have struggled on the road as they have been unable to take a road win in three attempts. With only three meetings left the Tide look to finish strong going into post-season events. The tide has a long history in gymnastics and looks to extend that greatness further.
Out on the course, Alabama golf will be starting its season back up in Panama City, Florida at the Watersound Invitational. Having last played in October the Tide look to start strong coming off the break in hopes of returning to the championship stage for the first time since 2014. With some strong wins against SEC opponents, the team has the credentials to post strong this season in hopes of making a run for the championships in Arizona.
Across the board, The University of Alabama has shown time and time again that football is not the only thing we can do. In men’s and women’s and across all sports the Tide assert their dominance as the greatest sports school in the country. These athletes prove each year why Alabama is the school Where Legends Are Made!
