We all have those foods that take us back. But have you ever thought about how they’ve shaped how you cook and eat today? Welcome to Cheffin it up with Bray and Brady blog edition. This post will be the Bray volume and I’ll be talking about foods that shaped me growing up and it’s shaped how I cook and choose what foods to eat today.
Breakfast Foods
- Fried Egg Breakfast Sandwich with Spinach, Cheese, and Turkey Lunch Meat.
I started off cooking making breakfast foods because of this meal. My mom used to make for me and my older brother all of the time and it became a staple meal for me.
2. Scrambled eggs with CornBeef Hash and a waffle.
This meal was the first meal I tried to make and failed miserably at but now it’s a meal that I base my breakfast meals off of that I cook today.
3. Oatmeal with raisins and honey and a waffle.
This was a smaller meal but it was a quick and easy meal that my parents would make when we were running late to get to school.
Lunch Foods
Steak and Cheese with home fries.
This was the first lunch meal I started making off after watching my mom do it for a while. This meal got me through Covid and became a comfort meal for me.
Fajita chicken with rice, black beans, and broccoli/corn
This meal right here is a meal that we still cook to this day when we need a quick bite to eat. It fills you up and fuels you for anything. It’s one of the meals my older brother started making the most.
Spaghetti with meat sauce
Man spaghetti will always be that one meal I go back to and don’t get tired of honestly especially how my mom makes it. It’s one of them ones that I used to eat a lot growing up.
Dinner Foods
Salmon, Rice, and Broccoli
This is one of my favorite dinner meals to this day if not my favorite one. There’s not much competition with this one I really just love it so dearly.
Lamb Chops with Rice and Broccoli
You’re probably seeing a trend here but it’s not a bad one at all sometimes you just gotta stick to what works. But this is another staple meal for me. Whenever we had this for dinner I would always be the first one downstairs ready to eat.
Chicken Cream of Celery in Egg Noodle and Spinach Pasta
This is probably something you’ve never heard of before but this unique dish got me through times where I had to eat soft foods only, cold winters, or needed some kind of comfort. This meal was me personified. I loved this meal so much I would always be excited when this was on the dinner menu.
These meals shaped the way I cook, the way I meal prep, how serious I am about nutrition and these were instilled in me by my mother. It’s led me to always pay attention to what I eat even though I definitely still eat foods I probably shouldn’t. So I want you guys to leave with this question for yourselves. What meals have made you who you are and shaped how you cook and eat as an adult? And do you still cook those meals today?
