Throw Back Media

Let’s talk about Vine. First I truly believe that Vine has changed the internet forever. Vine was a popular video hosting platform. It allows users to post videos straight from their imagination. What was interesting about this app is that it gave users just six seconds of video use. It was founded in 2012 and soon after the company was soon acquired by Twitter for $30 million. All in the same year even before its official launch. Vine was a video sharing app that allowed users to share to the world. The fact that there was such easy sharing capabilities of the app allowed for it to gain so much popularity in such a short amount of time. The app also had a looping feature that would keep the millions of viewers into watching hours of content which featured silly, funny creative content. Vine was soon used by millions and even celebrities as a platform to promote themselves. So the question remains what happen to the vine app? So Twitter discontinued the mobile app in 2016, and it became when creators would post videos it would no longer post to the app it would post to twitter. After that transition the app failed to perform and was subsequently met with awful reviews was the users. I think Vine died for many reasons, first the switch when Twitter bought it changed a lot. The app lacked monetization and advertising. It comes down to failure to meet the high growing market demand. Instagram soon introduced their take on short videos. Allowing users to post 15-second videos to their pages. That’s about it, it lived just as long as it died. I used to have the app and I would be on my iPad for long periods of time just watching the videos loop over and over again. When they canceled the app I was devastated and so were many of my other friends. This might be a little dramatic, but the loss of Vine was hard for a lot of people, I think it was a very important part of my childhood.

Still to this day many people across the world miss it, and wish it could make a comeback. Now I’m going to get into some of my favorite vines. One of my favorite ones is “Happy Birthday Raven! I can’t swim” that one never fails to make me laugh. Another top favorite vine was “It’s an avocado, thanks!”. As Christmas time rolled around my favorite vine was of that girl saying “Merry Chrysler!”. Looking back on all the vines now makes me feel nostalgic and just miss the app. Sometimes my friends and I often throw on the Best vines of all time on YouTube and that will keep us entertained for some time.

Talking about how Twitter bought Vine now let’s move onto the next topic of Twitter in general, the best tweets of all time. First when Post Malone tweeted “is meatball an fruit” July 16, 2018. I feel that just makes sense he tweeted that, like it is funny for no reason. Another iconic tweet was when Kylie Jenner posted “Last night I had cereal with milk for the first time. Life changing.” once again this tweet makes so much sense to me, this is totally something she would say. The tweet got 177.1K likes which is insane. Never forget when Kris Jenner called out People for not knowing how rich Kim is. People tweeted photos inside of Kanye and Kim’s house stating it was a 20 million house and Kris had to correct it to 60 million. Talking about the Kardashians Kim once tweeted about her discovery of what a pickle is. She tweeted “Thanks guys! I had no idea a pickle was really a cucumber! U guys totally confirmed it!” She tweeted that back in 2010, I don’t think she uses Twitter anymore, and I wish she did. We can’t forget Paris Hilton’s iconic tweet “Jealousy is a disease get well soon”. Twitter has had so many iconic moments and these tweets will never die. When I think back to this era it reminds me a little of Kanye. I remember the VMAs in 2009 after Taylor Swift performed Kanye came up to her and totally disrespected her by taking her fame on the stage. On the topic of Kanye, he has gone so crazy. From posting insane photos on Instagram to tweeting super inappropriate things he has totally gone off his rocker. Kim Kardashian and Kanye have been split for a few years down, and I think his mental health has just gone downhill, I hope he is actually ok though. During the vine era, I think the growth in mobile and social media use has sparked debates about the impact of screen time on America’s youth and others. These apps that were coming out were only pushing teens to be on their iPhones and iPads more and more. There has been so much that has shaped us into who we are today but without these moments and eras, I think we all would be in such different places. Well thanks for tuning in to this week’s Twitch blog!
