Travis Scott and Astroworld Festival

Share

If you don’t know who Travis Scott is, he is one of the biggest artists in the world and has a fan base known as “ragers.” This same fan base he has built over the last couple of years eventually would lead to the downfall of his live shows, and now Travis must deal with the consequences of the image he portrays and what he asks fans to do during live shows. Travis even has lines in his songs saying,” it ain’t a mosh pit if ain’t no injuries.” Travis has also faced two prior charges of inciting riots among his fan base.

Over the last week, artist Travis Scott held his third annual festival called Astroworld, fans were excited to go, and the setlist for the show featured some huge artists like Bad Bunny, Lil Baby, Young Thug, Tame Impala, and many more. Sadly, the show wouldn’t even make it to day two of the festival after stories started to break about fans getting injured by the hundreds and sadly leaving eight people dead.

The festival had around 50,000 fans in attendance, and we don’t know how many people would eventually break in through the barricades; Travis actively promoted fans sneaking in with his May 2021 Tweet in which he said: “We still sneaking the wild ones in. !!!!” This can be a reason why the show was so overcrowded and unsafe since it was very likely over capacity for the section Travis had selected for the festival.

In the crowd of the eight people that passed away, the youngest would happen to be a 14-year-old and the oldest at 27-year-old. A GoFundMe has been set up for the fans who did not survive, and Travis has offered to cover all therapy costs for the victim’s families and funeral costs.

Multiple videos from the show have been posted to social media about how Travis and fans were dealing with the situation at hand. Fans were calling for the show to be stopped, and they were ignored by the security team. Travis did happen to stop the show multiple times, but he never fully shut the show down; there are videos of Travis seeing an ambulance getting fans help, and then a couple of minutes later, he goes right back to performing; this was pure neglect for his fan base, once he saw that people needed serious medical attention he should he shut it down and now he will be held responsible to a certain extent for the deaths that happened under his watch.

Travis’s response to the situation has been terrible. He posted a video where it seems like he is trying to care about the fans that passed away; he said, “anytime I could make out anything that’s going on, I stopped the show and helped them get the help they need,” he said, “We’ve been working closely with everyone trying to get to the bottom of this.” The way he is acting in the video really makes it seem like he doesn’t care; here is a link to the video.

This situation could have been avoided if Travis had just shut the concert down, but the show must go on mentality has caused the death of eight people; here are some videos from the concert that show how packed, unsafe, and fans calling for it to be shut down, but they were ignored, some of these may be hard to watch so watch at your own risk.
