Twitch Leak Send Shockwaves Through Gaming World

Over the course of the past week, a leak in Twitch’s database has created anxiety for streamers and fans. This was not a little data breach as 128 GB of data was released to the public. A source close to the situation had this to say, “Among these files is believed to be the entire source code of the streaming platform, along with its comment history going back to the beginnings of the site, reports of creator payouts from 2019, clients for Twitch from a range of devices, proprietary SDKs, internal AWS services used by the site, files related to the other properties that are owned by Twitch, an unreleased Steam competitor referred to as Vapor reportedly crafted by Amazon Game Studios, and Twitch’s internal red teaming tools.” Below are some revenues that were released in the leak.

I think an underrated story line from this data leak is the potential for a new streaming platform. We all knew these streamers were making beaucoup bucks, but a new streaming platform will be interesting to see how that affects Twitch and other streaming platforms. Not to mention, the entire source code for Twitch was leaked. So in review, if you have a Twitch account it might be smart to change your password pretty soon.

In better news, a new game has created nostalgia for many young adults. The game is called “Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.” My first time playing this game, I thought it was awesome because I got to play as some of my favorite Nickelodeon characters. This was short lived as I slowly learned that the game was just a cheap knockoff of “Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros.” You can only ride the nostalgia wave for so long before having the same, limited button combinations for every player gets monotonous. I am not completely ripping on the game. Just in my limited experience with the game this past weekend, I do not think it was worth all of the hype it was getting. People were going as far to say the game would “knock off Smash.” That could not have been further from the case. In the end, I am glad this game reminded me how good Smash truly is and that it will never be replicated or duplicated again.
