Everything you need to know about the Super Bowl

Share

The Philadelphia Eagles play against Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl this Sunday, February 12th. The Super Bowl has been around since 1967 and is most likely one of the most exciting game for football fans across the world. Super Bowl commercials also play a huge role. Some of the ads are an absurd amount of money and every year the price to purchase one is only raising. It also is in the top 5 biggest eating days of the year for Americans, which is crazy to think about. It is kinda ironic how the very first game took place on January 15, 1967, and the Green Bay Packers beat Kansas City Chiefs. In this year’s bowl game the Chiefs play again, I wonder if they will lose yet again. The official kickoff time is at 6:30 p.m. eastern time and 4:30 p.m. local time on Sunday. You can watch this annual game on Fox Sports app, or different services such as Sling TV, Hulu+, and fuboTV. There are a little over 200 million people watching and streaming the Super Bowl games every year, and it first started out with only 60 million viewers. The Super Bowl has come a very long way from how it originated. The prices of a Super Bowl ticket is also insane, the average of them sell for a higher number than the average American salary! The lowest price starts at $6,700.00 and ranges all the way up to $82,000.00 for VIP seating. People will pay these prices and will continue to.

Of course, there are watch parties happening all over for the game, so even if you aren’t even a big football fan, Super Bowl parties are a perfect place for delicious food. Some of the most popular Super Bowl dishes include chips and salsa, tater totes, chili, buffalo wings, hummus, nachos, pigs in a blanket, and spinach artichoke dip. Chicken wings is the number one most popular dish on the Super Bowl. Some of my favorites are pizza, pigs in a blanket, and buffalo chicken dip. I also do really enjoy sweets, I always have a sweet tooth. Last year in 2022 I made really cute chocolate-covered strawberries and white frosting made them look like mini footballs. Growing up my family would always be the one to host the Super Bowl parties and everyone would come gather at our house and enjoy the game together. Now recently in college my roommates and I host an annual Super Bowl party at our house for everyone. We all bring a dish and watch the game cuddled up on our couch. A majority of my friends want the Eagles to win. Mainly because there have been a handful of Alabama football players that have been drafted to play for them. Some of my friends are also from Pennsylvania so of course they have to route for their home team. It is also interesting because there are a handful of NFL teams that have never won the Super Bowl. There are also some teams that have never even made it to a Super Bowl game. Some of the teams that have never made it to a Super Bowl game include the Browns, Bengals, Jaguars, Lions, and Texans. Maybe one day all those teams will make it and maybe eventually win the bowl.

The commercials are definitely one of my favorite things about the Super Bowl, they are so entertaining to watch. Often celebrities make appearances in Super Bowl ads. A few years back in 2020 to purchase a 30-second Super Bowl ad costs roughly $5.5 million. When we take a look back at the first game in 1967 the ads went for around $40,000. The reason why these commercials are so expensive is that these games have such high viewership, that it leads the companies to revenue. Over the years the advertisements have also grown to become very popular among the audience. Many of my favorite advertisements over the years come to my head when I think of the Super Bowl. The first one is State Farm Drake From State Farm, in 2021 Drake was featured in a State Farm commercial. They put him in the iconic red shirt and khakis, and it was the talk of the town. Another iconic commercial was the peak of Britney Spear’s pop star career she was featured in a Pepsi advertisement. The advertisement was her dancing and singing about Pepsi throughout the years. I am a big fan of Britney Spears, so I will never forget that one. In 2022 when Squarespace featured Zendaya in their commercial “Sally’s Seashells”. Having such a known actress in their ads brings so much attention to their company. I always enjoy Amazon advertisements and I loved their commercial in 2022, Amazon: Mind Reader. I remember thinking it was so funny and how it probably is a good thing Amazon Alexa can not read our minds. It also reminds me of a previous Amazon advertisement, where “Alexa Loses Her Voice”. It is a celebrity-packed ad and had almost over 50 million streams online.  Budweiser is also known for a lot of its ads, their Puppy Love commercial is my favorite one. It tells a story of an unlikely friendship between two animals and will make your heart melt. All these ads play a big role in what makes the Super Bowl so special, and what makes these advertisements so expensive as well. Every year companies have a lot to live up to because they want their advertisement to be memorable to the millions of people watching.

The commercials are very entertaining, but we also have to talk about the halftime shows. Every year a lot of talk happens about who will be performing, will the performance be any good, whether will there be any guest stars making an appearance and of course what is the soundtrack. In this year’s Super Bowl Rihanna will be performing. There has been lots of talk if she will bring out anyone and if so who. I hope she does bring out someone, maybe Jay-Z. That would for sure be memorable. I will never forget the 2022 half-time show with so many talented artists. Some of those artists include Eminem, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, and Kendrick Lamar all these artists had outstanding performances. These halftime shows can also cost a big penny, almost upwards of $10 million for the production. It is arguably one of the biggest performances of the year for many artists. Every year this game is something I really look forward to and I think many others can say the same thing. I’m excited to see what’s to come to this Super Bowl on February 12th.
