Girls Night Out; What To Wear (And Not) To The Bars

Tuscaloosa offers great nightlife for college students needing a fun night out. Those 19 and up can visit a variety of bars with their friends, and those 21 and up can visit even more!

But what should you wear? Does each bar have a different vibe? What is everyone else wearing?

Let us tell YOU!

First, the beginning of the week starts off more casual. Yes, you can go out every night here. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday are extremely casual so athletic leisure or a big Comfort Colors t-shirt is appropriate. Enjoy yourself, the lack of cover, and be comfortable.

Wednesday is usually spent at Gallettes, for Wine Wednesday, of course. Outfits can vary, but most will be more casual. You can pull out a cute Lululemon set, or stick to a simple top and shorts. If you haven’t been wearing your mascara, now is the night to do so.

Thursday is when outfits become more of a priority, since it is now the weekend (according to me). You will see flashier pieces, maybe cute pants and a nicer top, but you can still keep it relatively simple.

Friday and Saturday are serious. Dress it up more or you may feel underdressed. This is when you will see all the trending pieces and cutest styles come to play. Street style, girly, anything new, glittery and gold will be out. Makeup full-face will be done. Hair perfectly styled. YSL perfumes sprayed.

So what do we mean by trending pieces? How dressy are we talking?

Sneak Peak of our favorite trends!

We fully mean you will see your pinterest board in real life.

For bottoms, micro skirts, tennis skirts, and mini skirts are trending. Anything low- rise; shorts, skirts, or pants are extremely trendy. Cargo pants and low rise parachute pants are paving their way onto the strip. Leather pants and shorts are always well loved by our students, as well as relaxed/baggy fit jeans.

For tops, trending items include bustier or corset tops, tank tops, halter tops, or anything cropped and cute. Colors range, but a lot of black and white is seen.

Shoes! Shoes! Shoes! What shoes you should wear, depends fully on the bar. White Air-Forces are everywhere; most of us own a pair specifically for the bars. Especially if you will be in a crowded bar such as Rounders, your shoes will get trashed. I recommend shoes made from a material you can easily wipe down. Bars like Innis or Beartrap, you may be able to keep your shoes a little cleaner. No matter what, you will have drinks spilled on you or the floor will be messy, so keep shoe cleaner and protectant on hand.

Some bars tend to be dressed down no matter what.

RedShed, the Booth and Sideline are all night spots you can hit in a hoodie no matter the day.

For beauty, some girls go full-face makeup, other girls do minimal makeup! Whatever you are comfortable with. Spray tans are extremely popular on campus; PalmBeach and Tanning Oasis both offer different varieties. For an at home tan, St. Tropez and LovingTan are extremely popular.

Blowouts are trending, voluminous hair, curled hair and extensions will be seen around. The humidity is a pain to combat, but hairspray and blowout creams are your best friends.

If you need to shop around, hit the boutiques in Midtown village, downtown, or Platos! TJ Maxx and Ross sometimes have cute outfits. For online shopping; Princess Polly, Edikted, Urban Outfitters, Shein, Zara and Abercrombie are great options.
