Inspiring African American Women Changing History

Starting off our list of inspiring black women who are changing history we Marsai Martin. She has become the youngest person to produce a studio film. At 13 years old, she produced and acted in the comedy film Little. Marsai has acted in the sitcom Black-ish since 2014 receiving many awards over the years for her role. Since her start she has been taking the screen by storm. In 2019 she got behind the camera and was an executive producer for the Universal Pictures feature film Little. She has set a new record in Hollywood, and is even producing another film. At 16 she received the Guiness World Record award for being the youngest executive producer of a major Hollywood movie. She is going to continue to star and produce in future projects. At 17 years old now she is taking every opportunity to build her career, which is bound to be successful.

Next on our list is the popular singer, Lizzo. Not only is Lizzo a great singer she is also very vocal about body positivity. Since the start of her career, she has always been about body positivity, blackness, queerness, and feminism. She is someone who is all about inclusivity and positivity. As a songwriter, she has written empowering songs that teach people to love themselves. Her music has earned her three Grammys, two Soul Train Music Awards, a Billboard Music Award, a BET award. She even received a Guinness World Record Award for most weeks at No. 1 on the US singles charts for a rap single by a female artist in 2019. Many people have body slammed her throughout her career, yet she has always portrayed self-confidence and encourages others to do the same. We could all learn a thing or two from Lizzo.

Our next amazing woman is Allyson Felix. In 2004, she became the youngest champion to compete at the World Championships competing in track and field in the Summer Olympics in Athens. Two years later, she became the second female to win three gold medals at a single World Championships. Competing in the Olympics over the years she has won seven gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal. She dominated at World Championships and played a key role on the United States women’s relay teams. At the 2015 Beijing World Championships, she beat the record for the fastest split ever by an American woman, and third-fastest split ever by a female athlete. She is also credited, along with Alysia Montano and Kara Goucher, for bringing attention to Nike’s refusal to guarantee salary protections for its pregnant athletes. This stirred the public and prompted the company to expand its maternity policy. She has earned many titles and awards over the years and is an advocate overcoming adversity. Over the years she has given many speeches to young, at-risk audiences teaching them important life lessons.

Viola Davis is an amazing actress and definitely deserves to be on this list. Davis has received multiple awards and she is the first African-American to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting. This is a term used for actors and actresses who have won a competitive Academy Award, Emmy Award, and Tony Award. Recently she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Davis has been acting since 1992 and has taken on major roles in the past. In 2020, Davis was an executive producer and appeared in the documentary film Giving Voice, which is on Netflix. Most notable is her work with the Hunger Is campaign to help eradicate childhood hunger across America. Giving back to her community is an important part of Davis’ life. She is passionate about ending childhood hunger because she grew up in poverty. She knows how important it is for children to grow up healthy. She started the 30 Days Project with Hunger Is, the goal of this project was to reach $30,000 in 30 days. This project was also a way to inform the public about the important work of Hunger Is. She is the most inspirational actress I can think of for going through poverty and eventually fighting to end hunger.

These women are changing history and they prove to be great inspirations for many people. There are many more amazing women out there changing the world. We should all take time out of our day to appreciate the work these women do.
