The Nintendo Switch 2: Is it worth it?

Share

The Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the most anticipated consoles of all time, following record success for Nintendo with the Switch. Can this console live up to the high expectations set by the Switch? Or has Nintendo already doomed the console to fail with it’s pricing?

New Design

The Switch 2 features a large 7.9 inch LCD screen with a 1080p resolution. This is a big jump if your still using the base Switch 1 with its 6.2 inch 720p display. When docked the Switch 2 supports 4k resolution at 60 fps, making it a viable home console as well.

New Hardware

The Switch 2 comes packing with an advanced chip enabling smoother gameplay and faster load times than the original console. The Switch 2 also supports advanced graphics features such as Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and real-time ray tracing, creating more realistic and vibrant visuals.

The Nintendo Switch 2 joy cons seem to be an improvement on the original with a new magnetic connection, and a larger design which is was a big ask for people with big hands that didn’t like the original Switch’s small controllers. The magnetic function locks so you don’t have to worry about your joy cons falling off at any point.

Games

There is already a few good games that are releasing with the Switch 2 including a new Donkey Kong, Tomodachi Life, and a new Hollow Knight game. A very notable mention is the release of a new Fromsoft game, the creators of the hit souls series, who are making an exclusive release just for the Switch 2.

Price Tag

The price of the Switch 2 has caused a large amount of backlash for the company as the Switch 2 retails for $449.99. Games are also now more expensive on the switch 2 with many digital downloads hitting $80 or $90 for a physical copy. Nintendo is attempting to make these $80 price tags a normality and it is only an amount of time until other companies start looking at these outrageous prices as the norm for their games.
