From the great performances of The X-Factor to the amazing voices of The Voice, we all know a little bit about these television series. Everyone also knows about Simon Cowell and his harsh reactions to some potential singers.
There have been many ups and downs in popular reality television music competitions. Many hopeful people will get their dreams crushed on these shows. But there are a few that will get what’s called a golden buzzer. Here are some of the best Simon Cowell golden buzzers. Calysta Bevier made a huge impact during her audition, with the song “Fight Song.” Before the contestants sing, they give a background on themselves. Calysta talked about how she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 15. She was in remission when she auditioned, but she went through a long journey before that. Doctors removed a five-pound tumor and she went through 21 chemo infusions. Simon Cowell was so moved by her performance that he used his golden buzzer, and each judge only gets one golden buzzer for the entire season. When a judge uses their golden buzzer the contestant goes to the quarterfinals without having to compete in the other performances. Unfortunately, Calysta only made it to the semi-finals before getting eliminated.
The next big Simon Cowell golden buzzer is Mandy Harvey. Mandy revealed that she is deaf, and had to teach herself how to sing again. She was not born deaf, but was diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder and started losing her hearing. She loved to sing before she lost her hearing and gave up on singing after she became deaf thinking that she could never sing again. She retaught herself and found her joy in singing. During her audition, she had a translator and took her shoes off in order to feel the vibrations of the background music. She performed an original song, which is something that Simon Cowell usually doesn’t like, “Try.” She gave an outstanding performance and the crowd loved her. When she finished her performance the judges didn’t get to say anything before Simon Cowell pressed the golden buzzer. Mandy finished in fourth place, but she also wrote a memoir with co-author Mark Atteberry, Sensing the Rhythm: Finding My Voice in a World Without Sound.
These two auditions were from America’s Got Talent, now let’s go over the best auditions from The Voice. Wé Mcdonald was one of the most memorable performers. She had a very high-pitched speaking voice, but a lower singing voice that left the judges and coaches in awe. Wé Mcdonald ended up finishing in third.
Another The Voice audition that left the coaches stunned was Melanie Martinez with her performance of “Toxic.” She put a creative twist on the many songs she performed, and also had an amazing voice. After finishing in sixth place, Melanie went on to produce a full-length album called “Cry Baby.” She is known for being the most successful singer to ever come out of The Voice.
All of the contestants that we have talked about are females. This next The Voice contestant is a male named Jordan Smith. If you are an avid watcher of reality television music competitions, you’ll know about Jordan Smith. Jordan Smith previously auditioned for The Voice but was rejected. He auditioned again in 2015 for the ninth season, and all of the coaches turned around. He sang “Chandelier” by Sia and gained 15 million views in the 24 hours after his audition was posted on YouTube. Many of his renditions were on the charts, some at number one. He went on to win The Voice and received $100,000, a contract with Republic Records, and a new car. His final performance was with Usher, they sang Usher’s hit song “Without You.” He was the show’s first artist to reach number one in sales.
There are many more top performances on different reality television music competitions. Multiple stars and groups made their start on these shows. What really matters is not what they do on these shows, but how they take their career further after they leave the show. There have been many artists who win their competition, but we haven’t heard from them since. Of course, there are a variety of failures too, some unforgettable and others that are hilarious.
